Colleen Knapp

Associate Director of Records & Registration
School of Graduate Studies
1. Please introduce yourself and describe your role at UMB.
My name is Colleen Knapp, I am the associate director of records & registration for the school of graduate studies. The records & registration team oversees many cyclical and detail-oriented processes including course scheduling, graduation, and the University Catalog. Not only am I brand new to UMB, but I am new to the state of Maryland. I hold a masters in higher education administration and have dedicated 18 years to the profession.
2. Why are you interested in serving on the Staff Senate?
I am eager to collaborate with staff across campus and serve as a voice to senior leadership on behalf of all UMB staff. The relationships I hope to build as a senator will foster future collaborations. The business of running higher education institutions is one of my research interests, and Staff Senate will afford me the opportunity to engage beyond my college and contribute in a different way.
3. What do you hope to accomplish during your term?
I have always valued Staff Senate organizations, both as a member and as an employee in higher education. I have witnessed firsthand how a Staff Senate can effectively use their platform to reach senior leadership on behalf of broader community. I haven’t been at UMB very long, but this group was one of the first things I sought out and was pleased to find an active and thriving membership. I hope to use my voice to positively impact my co-workers and to contribute my professional experience to policy making.
4. Describe your hobbies and interests outside of work.
When not serving as chauffeur for my non-driving teenagers, you can find me playing competitive tennis in Columbia. I am also a travel enthusiast and musical theatre devotee.
