Please introduce yourself and describe your role at UMB.
I'm Loren Johnson, a Research Conflict of Interest & Conduct Compliance Analyst in the Conflict of Interest office. I have worked for UMB for the past 7 years. I'm a creative person with a great interest in government affairs and public policy. I have enjoyed my time at UMB and would love to give back by becoming a member of the staff senate.
Why are you interested in serving on the Staff Senate?
I'm interested in joining the staff senate to gain a sense of community with likeminded colleagues and engage with leadership on topics of concern currently facing my fellow UMB employees. I look forward to making connections with my fellow senators and collaborating on initiatives and outreach that positively impacts UMB staff and campus community. My experiences in the UMBrella coaching program and the UMB Emerging Leaders program have piqued my interest in being more involved at the University. I have colleagues who are current and past staff senate members, and I've heard nothing but good reviews!
What do you hope to accomplish during your term?
I hope to make an impact by using my voice to advocate for my colleagues, influence leadership on issues important to UMB staff and contribute to the staff senate accomplishing the goals they have set. I also hope to encourage and support positive changes at the university, as well as assist with initiatives that provide engagement opportunities for staff.
Describe your hobbies and interests outside of work.
In my free time I like to hang out with my 6-year-old nephews, work on crafting projects, make floral arrangements and work with a local theatre company as a follow-spot operator.
