INFO: Join the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Force at Sandy Point State Park, where more than 10,000 participating plungers will brave the frozen Chesapeake Bay in support of the 7,782 Special Olympics Maryland athletes who train and compete throughout the state year-round. This year, UMB’s team of plunging police officers are attempting to raise $10,000 on their team page to help create a culture in Maryland where opportunity is not limited by disability.

UMB’s team continues to get bigger and better with every year. This year for the first time they will be joined by their new Chief of Police, Alice K. Cary, MS. She will be joining her officers in the freezing water, making her the first acting UMB Police Chief to take the plunge.

“I am not only excited to be a first-time participant but honored to be joining an elite group of first-time plungers,” says Cary. “I am also proud to be the first UMB Chief to venture into the cold water!”

In a year of firsts for the Polar Bear Plunge, this will also be the first year that UMB’s security officers will be participating in the plunge alongside the UMB police officers.

The police officer plunge on Jan. 25 is just one of several plunges taking place throughout the weekend during the MSP Polar Bear Plunge. Between Pee Wee, Cool Schools, Corporate, and Police… there’s a Plunge for everyone!

Don’t miss out on a day of fun: food & drinks, live music, entertainment, activities for all ages and plunging into the Chesapeake Bay! Young or old, come BEAR the cold for Special Olympics Maryland.
