This award is a memorial to Cecil S. Kelly, who served the University from Oct. 28, 1966, through Sept. 4, 1989, and annually recognizes an employee who exemplifies the qualities of service, humanity, and commitment that Kelly exhibited during his career.
Award Timeline and Frequency
All 12 EOM nominees will be considered for this award. In addition, applications will be available in October 2024 and must be submitted by January 31, 2025. Award winners will be notified early spring.
Nominations
Staff or faculty can nominate staff employees of UMB to be selected for employee of the month.

Demonstrated behaviors in the following areas:
General:

- Excellence as a team player

Who is Eligible?
The 12 winners of the Employee of the Month Award are automatically considered for this award.
In addition, nominations are accepted for:
- Staff employees (regular exempt and non-exempt) with a minimum of two years' continuous employment at the time of nomination.
- Recipient must be in good standing with the university (minimum of meets expectations on PDP).
- Employees may not nominate their immediate supervisor, manager, director, etc.
- Previous award recipients from within the past five years are ineligible
Nomination Process
Complete the nomination form describing the outstanding performance of the employee. Please provide specific examples of how the employee meets the criteria, including UMB Core Values.
Selection Process
The winner is selected by an internal review committee representing various campus departments managed by Human Resource Services.
What does the winner receive?
- $1,000 check.
- Framed certificate signed by the UMB President.
- Announcement in The Elm.
- Recognition at the Annual Service Awards luncheon.
