This award is a memorial to Cecil S. Kelly, who served the University from Oct. 28, 1966, through Sept. 4, 1989, and annually recognizes an employee who exemplifies the qualities of service, humanity, and commitment that Kelly exhibited during his career.
Award Timeline and Frequency
The 12 Employee of the Month winers will be considered for this award. In addition, applications must be submitted by January 31, 2026. Award winners will be notified early spring.
Nominations
Staff or faculty can nominate any UMB staff employee for employee of the year.
Nomination Criteria
Demonstrated behaviors in the following areas:
General:
- Excellence in performance — going above and beyond job expectations
- Making a difference to the campus community
- Acting as a role model for peers and colleagues
- Excellence as a team player

Who is Eligible?
The 12 winners of the Employee of the Month Award winners are automatically considered for this award and UMB employees who are:
- Staff employees (regular exempt and non-exempt) with a minimum of two years' continuous employment at the time of nomination.
- In good standing with the university (minimum of meets expectations on PDP).
- Not nominating their immediate supervisor, manager, director, etc.
- Not previous award recipients from within the past five years.
Nomination Process
Complete the nomination form describing the outstanding performance of the employee. Please provide specific examples of how the employee meets the criteria, including UMB Core Values.
