Units Supporting Your Work

Research at UMB is supported by a coordinated ecosystem of offices that work together to provide services, guidance, and oversight throughout the research process. Departments within the Office of Research and Development (ORD), along with key partner offices across the University, collaborate to support researchers and project teams at every stage of work.

Research Administration

Research administration supports the project team by ensuring sponsor and regulatory requirements are met throughout the life of a project.

Regulatory Offices

Regulatory offices provide oversight and support to ensure research is conducted safely, ethically, and in compliance with applicable regulations.

  • Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)

    A Division of Administration and Finance

    EHS supports UMB’s research enterprise by protecting laboratory workers, the environment, and the community, while also protecting the integrity of experimental materials. 

  • Office of Accountability and Compliance (OAC)

    OAC provides research compliance oversight, education, and investigative services, including support for human and animal research protections, research integrity, and conflict of interest requirements.

  • Conflict of Interest (COI)

    A Department of OAC

    COI manages financial conflicts of interest in research. Disclosure of certain financial interests is required before engaging in specific professional activities.
