On June 6, the Global Learning for Health Equity Network (GL4HEN) hosted a convening, which brought together global learning leaders, program designers, implementers, and funders to reflect on the lessons learned and to chart the future of global learning for health equity collaboratively.
GL4HEN was launched in August 2020 with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and is led by Dr. Yolanda Ogbolu, Dean of the School of Nursing, and Virginia Rowthorn, Associate Professor at the School of Graduate Studies. Over the past three years, the network has developed a framework for global learning, also known as reciprocal innovation.
The convening also spotlighted Network grantees that have leveraged global learning to tackle diverse health equity challenges, including adolescent health, aging-friendly communities, trauma-informed care, and racial healing.
A few highlights include:
-
Montana State University (Partner: Kenya) – Addressing adolescent sexual and reproductive health disparities by adapting successful Kenyan community-based health initiatives to rural Montana
-
The Cambodian Family (Partner: Cambodia) – Developing culturally sensitive mental health interventions for Cambodian and Southeast Asian immigrant communities in California, incorporating indigenous healing practices
-
The Hood Exchange (Partner: Ghana) – Using immersive cohort-based experiences to foster racial healing and dismantle systemic inequities in Black communities
