Presented by UMB Council for the Arts & Culture
Stop 7
Heading south, the next stop includes a visit to UMB’s first piece of public art, a 30-foot-tall kinetic sculpture by artist Eric Peltzer titled “Stochastic Interactions.” Installed in 2018 utilizing the state of Maryland’s Percent for Art program, this dynamic sculpture symbolizes the University’s commitment to innovation and the interconnectedness of knowledge across disciplines.
A gift from the Maryland State Arts Council, it was unveiled by then-Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan, an artist and former honorary chair of UMB’s Council for the Arts & Culture who described the sculpture as “beautiful” and in the perfect spot to inspire “people of all ages, including students.”
