Founded in 1816, the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law is the second-oldest law school in the country and has a long and storied tradition of producing distinguished lawyers, judges, and public servants.
Be sure to visit the beautiful courtyard located adjacent to the north exit of the main lobby. It is a central outdoor space that provides a peaceful environment for students, faculty, and staff to gather, study, or relax between classes. The courtyard often is used for events and is a popular feature of the law school’s campus.
On the library’s second level, wall exhibits chronicle Thurgood Marshall’s life and career, along with displays detailing the library’s dedication in his honor. Additionally, a prominent bronze bust of Justice Marshall stands at the entrance.
In the hallway leading to Westminster Hall, historical exhibits and a video display showcase the preservation of the Hall and Guildhouse, featuring striking photographs. Additionally, there is an enlarged map featuring a bird’s-eye view of Baltimore in which the School of Law stands by renowned Sachse & Co.
