Stop 1
Davidge Hall, located next to the Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry, was built in 1812 and is the oldest continuously used medical education building in the United States. It serves as a historic landmark for the University of Maryland School of Medicine and a testament to the evolution of medical education. Named after Dr. John Beale Davidge, one of the school’s founders, the building features a striking neoclassical design with a domed roof and grand columns.
Inside, the Anatomical Hall and Clinical Amphitheater reflect early 19th-century medical instruction, where students once observed surgical procedures in tiered seating. Davidge Hall remains an integral part of the University, hosting lectures, ceremonies, and historical exhibits that honor UMB’s medical legacy.
