UMB's Professional Administrative(s) Committed to Excellence

Each year, the University of Maryland, Baltimore shows its appreciation to its administrative professionals during Administrative Professionals Week!

In recognition of administrative professionals’ dedication and hard work, UMBPACE hosts an annual luncheon that includes a guest speaker who provides inspiration, professional insights, or words of encouragement on the importance of the role of an administrative professional.

This luncheon is our way of saying “thank you” for the professionalism, commitment, and positive energy our administrative teams bring every day.

Anna Borgerding leads a team of 340 staff members within six units at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). With a career built on transforming uncertainty into opportunity, she has guided her organization through significant transitions — from major software implementations to departmental restructurings — while maintaining trust and building organizational resilience.

Borgerding’s leadership philosophy centers on communication, inclusion, and strategic adaptation. She has spearheaded UMB’s ambitious journey toward carbon neutrality by 2045, along with budget challenges that require difficult decisions made with clarity and compassion.

A Project Management Professional and PROSCI-certified change management practitioner, Borgerding was honored with the Network for Change and Continuous Innovation's Maury Cotter Leader of Change Award in 2022. She is currently pursuing her MBA at the University of Maryland Global Campus and is a 2025-2026 fellow of the National Association of College and University Business Officers. Throughout her career spanning facilities management, student affairs, and operational excellence, Borgerding has demonstrated that the ground shifting beneath our feet isn’t something to fear, it’s an invitation to grow, adapt, and lead with purpose.
