Shannon Wilson, School of Social Work, MSW

Shannon-WilsonDid attending UMB exceed your expectations? If yes, how so?

“Absolutely, I think social work is a wonderful program. The faculty are really supportive. They’re very available to us students if we have any concerns or questions, which I think is great. Because I feel that getting your master’s degree isn’t the easiest thing to do so it’s good to have that support to help you through the program.”

As a new social work graduate, congratulations. UMB’s mission is to improve the human condition and serve the public good. How do you plan to do that now?

“I plan to help where I can. I have a new job at the Board of Child Care, where I’m going to be working with adolescents. That’s what I wanted to do. I love working with youths. It’s not easy being a teenager, but I feel when you have the support that I’m hoping to provide to these kids it will make their transitions a little easier into adulthood and then they can thrive.”
