If you log in to your UMB student email account using either of the below web addresses, your UMB email account is impacted.

• https://mail.google.com/a/umaryland.edu
  
  
• http://gmail.umaryland.edu

Yes. Your professional email address is for UMB business needs while you are an employee. If you leave UMB employment, access to your professional UMB email is removed. Your UMB student and alumni email address is separate and you retain access to your student and alumni email regardless of your UMB employment status.

Email notifications & reminders to impacted accounts began on April 16, 2025.

The move of UMB Google email addresses for enrolled students and actively used alumni email addresses to UMB Microsoft 365 began June 18, 2025 and is complete.

Automatic forwarding of email in the UMB Google environment was disabled on June 17, 2025 to enhance the security of UMB email accounts. School of Medicine (SOM) alumni are receiving a new SOM alumni email address. Beginning the week of June 23, 2025, all new email sent to their original UMB Google alumni email address delivered instead to their new SOM alumni email address for one (1) year.

Access to UMB Google will be disabled the week of June 30, 2025. Please download any data you wish to keep by this date.

Visit the UMB account management website at https://directory.umaryland.edu/ to activate your UMB Microsoft 365 account.  Activation can take up to 30 minutes to complete.

Once activated, visit https://portal.office.com, log in with your UMB alumni email address & password, click Apps on the left, then click Outlook to access your UMB alumni email account.

The automatic moves of UMB Google email address to UMB Microsoft 365 are complete for enrolled students and alumni who actively logged in to their UMB Google email account.  Visit the UMB account management website to activate your UMB Microsoft 365 account.

Once activated, access your email by logging in to https://portal.office.com with your UMB alumni or student email address & password, click Apps on the left, and select Outlook.

The emails already in your UMB Google account will not be moved.  You can download your UMB Google emails by following the instructions on the Downloading Your UMB Google Data page.

Your UMB Google email address does not change when it is moved to UMB Microsoft 365.  The same email address will continue to work.  The only difference is new email is delivered to your UMB Microsoft 365 mailbox instead of your UMB Google mailbox.

School of Medicine (SOM) alumni with a UMB Google account will receive a new SOM alumni email address.  Their UMB Google email address will be forwarded to their new SOM alumni email address for one (1) year.  After one (1) year, the original UMB Google email address will no longer work.

Enrolled School of Medicine (SOM) students with a UMB Google account will have their UMB Google email address forwarded to their SOM student email address for one (1) year.  After one (1) year, the original UMB Google email address will no longer work.

For alumni, UMB Office 365 provides only email.  Cloud file or photo storage is not available.

If your UMB Google email address was automatically moved to UMB Microsoft 365, you first need to activate your Microsoft 365 UMB login by visiting the UMB Account Management website at https://directory.umaryland.edu and complete the activation process.

To access your UMB Microsoft 365 alumni email account, visit https://portal.office.com, log in with your UMB alumni email address & password, click Apps on the left, then click Outlook to access your UMB alumni email account.

To access from a mobile device, install the Outlook app and follow the Add Account instructions from the instructions below.

No. To ensure the safety and security of your UMB email account, automatic forwarding of email to another email system or personal email account (e.g. Gmail, Yahoo, etc.) is not allowed. Yes, as an alumnus you can still receive a UMB Microsoft 365 alumni email address.  Please contact the UMB Help Desk for assistance.

You can reset your myUM password from the myUM Account Management site.
