Kathryn Lothschuetz Montgomery, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, is an associate professor and chair of the Department of Partnerships, Professional Education, and Practice at the School of Nursing.
In her academic administrative role, she provides leadership in the creation of strategic partnerships, faculty practice opportunities, and clinics (e.g., the Governor's Wellmobile program and faculty practices). Within this scope, Montgomery provides direction to the school's Office of Professional Education, Clinical Simulation and Standardized Patient labs, the Institute for Educators, and Office of Global Health.
Montgomery served as a commissioner for Maryland Health Care Commission for 2011 to 2016. Additionally, she serves on a number of policy forums throughout the state. Her research interests include the performance of teams, methodological approaches to predict team performance, synergy of partnerships, and new models of leadership and primary care to achieve strategic advances within health care systems. Montgomery teaches and lectures on health care leadership and the translation of practice leadership within complex adaptive systems theory. Montgomery is a retired U.S. Public Health Service rear admiral with more than 20 years of experience at the NIH Clinical Center as chief nurse officer and assistant surgeon general for the Department of Health and Human Services. In addition to extensive administrative roles in a variety of health and research settings, Montgomery has a clinical background in psychiatric nursing and is a director of Health Strategies, LLC.
