Joint Announcement from Jay A. Perman and Jeffrey A. Rivest

To: University of Maryland Faculty, Staff & Students and University of Maryland Medical Center Staff

Today is an exciting day in our history and for the partnership between the University of Maryland and the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Today we unveiled our new visual identity, including logos and colors, that will make it easier for everyone in the community to know that the University of Maryland and the Medical Center are aligned in our missions and committed to continuing our rich tradition of collaboration.

The new brand identity provides a simplified and consistent external public image to the general public, patients and their families, referring physicians and health professionals, prospective students, alumni, donors and our community that is easy to recognize and is visually unifying.

Our new logo anchors the University and the Medical Center in the deep historical tradition of the University as we move toward the 200th anniversary in 2012 of the naming of the University of Maryland by the state legislature and the building of Davidge Hall, at the heart of our campus.

This effort to create a unified visual identity has been underway for well over a year. You will start to see utilization of the new logo around campus, during graduation later this month, at events and in publications, and in new Medical Center advertising that will begin airing in mid June. More information about the new visual identity can be found on the UM website and the UMMC website.
