Dr. Douglas M. Barnes has a long history of giving back to the University of Maryland, Baltimore. He’s been on campus for 34 years — and he’s been a donor for 24 of them. As a professor and the executive director/chief dental officer of the School of Dentistry’s Faculty Practice Clinics of Excellence, Dr. Barnes knows inside out how much of a difference this institution makes for not only the students it trains to become leaders in the oral health care professions, but also for the patients who benefit from the faculty’s expertise and experience — and for the faculty themselves, who enjoy world-class facilities and equipment as well as exciting opportunities for professional collaboration and research.

Dr. Barnes enjoys the diversity of his job. “I get to do research, teach students, provide patient care, and participate in service activities. I also enjoy the social aspect of being in a University setting. I interact with many faculty, students, and staff. It is always interesting and never boring.”

Since his early years with the University, Dr. Barnes has made the decision to give back each year to the institution that has given him so much.
