Mark Reynolds, MA, DDS, PhD, named interim dean of the
University of Maryland School of Dentistry
I am pleased to announce that Mark Reynolds, MA, DDS, PhD, has been named interim dean of the University
of Maryland School of Dentistry.
Dr. Reynolds joined the University in 1996 as assistant professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial
Pathology and Periodontics. Since 2001 he has served as director of the advanced dental education program
in periodontics. And since 2005 he has served as chair of the Department of Periodontics.
A distinguished academic dentist, Dr. Reynolds has authored more than 200 scholarly publications, and
serves as a director on the American Board of Periodontology. His emphasis on developing basic and clinical
research has resulted in a significant increase in the number of peer-reviewed publications by department
From the start, Dr. Reynolds has been committed to creating a cutting-edge program in periodontics,
creating curricula in advanced surgical microscopy, periodontal regeneration and dental implants with the
latest emerging technologies.
To ensure a smooth transition, Dr. Reynolds will assume his new role on July 15 and serve as interim dean of
the University of Maryland School of Dentistry until a national search is concluded and a new dean has been
