Headcount History by School, 2012-2016

Total Fall 2016 headcount enrollment is 6,482, an increase of 2.4% from Fall 2015. All schools, excepting Medicine and Pharmacy showed an increase in enrollment compared to Fall 2015.  Over five years, the School of Law's enrollment has decreased by 19%, while the enrollment in the School of Pharmacy has increased by 10.6%.  During that same time span, the overall headcount enrollment at UMB has increased by 1.8%.

FTES History by School, 2012-2016

Total Fall 2016 FTES enrollment is 6,421, an increase of 4.4% compared with Fall 2015.  All schools, excepting Medicine, increased in FTES enrollment from Fall 2015 to Fall 2016.  FTES enrollment for Medicine decreased slightly.  Over a five-year period, the total FTES enrollment at UMB has increased by 1.7%.

Headcount Change by Degree

The increase in enrollment for Fall 2016 is largely attributable to increases in the Nursing Practice DNP (86), Nursing BSN (46), Social Work MSW (37), Health Science MS (35), and Law MS (29) programs.  The MS in Nursing program showed the largest loss in enrollment between 2015 and 2016, with a decrease of 47 students (7.8%), while the MS in Pharmacy program saw a decrease in enrollment of 26 (19.5%) and the JD in Law Day program decreased in enrollment by 21 (4.0%).  The new MS in Forensic Medicine program had an initial enrollment of 9 students.

Projected vs. Actual Headcount by Degree

Fall 2016 enrollment total is 2.3% greater than projected. While many programs are close to the projections, some have significant deviations. The Nursing MS, Law MS, Social Work MSW, and Law Evening JD programs enrolled the most number of students over their projected enrollments. Dental Hygiene BS, Medicine MD, and Global Health Services and Systems certificate programs have the largest disparity among the programs that failed to reach their projected enrollment.

Headcount by Gender

Women comprise 71.6% of the total Fall 2016 enrollment, with higher enrollments in all programs except for Dentistry PhD where men account for 66.7% of enrollment. The Dentistry DDS, Law LLM, Law Day JD, Law Evening JD, Pharmacy PhD, and Dentistry Post Graduate Certificate programs are split equally or almost equally.

Headcount by Attendance Status

Full-time students account for 79.8% of headcount enrollment for Fall 2016. Programs that have more than 50 percent part-time students include the Health Science MS, Law MS, Pharmacy MS, Clinical Research Certificate, Research Ethics Certificate, Aging & Applied Thanatology Certificate, and Nursing MS, PhD, and Certificate programs.

Headcount and Percentage by Race/Ethnicity

Race and ethnicity categories are consistent with Federal Reporting standards.  Total Minority is the sum of the American Indian, Asian, Black, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, and Multi-Racial categories. Table 7b provides percent of headcount by race/ethnicity.

Headcount by Residency

Maryland residents account for 77.1% of the total enrollment for Fall 2016. The undergraduate programs have the highest percent with 93.6% in-state residents. The Research & Scholarship Doctorate programs have the lowest at 29.6%.

Headcount by Tuition Rate

The in-state tuition rate was paid by 82% of students in Fall 2016.  The undergraduate programs have the highest percent with 96.4% in-state tuition rates. The Certificate programs have the lowest at 44.2%.

Headcount by Degree Status

Overall, 98.7% of students are seeking degrees or certificates. Most non-degree students are concentrated within the Master’s level programs, mainly Nursing (58), Pharmacy (8), Medicine (7), and Public Health (6).
