Summer U Camp
The camp operated by the University of Maryland, Baltimore Department of University Recreation and Fitness will be licensed by the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
The camp is designed for those students entering the third, fourth, and fifth grade (Fall 2018) who are attending James McHenry Elementary School. The camp curriculum has been crafted to offer a wide variety of programs that meet the interests, abilities, and needs of students. Camp activities invite participants to enjoy all that the University has to offer. They will be interactive and led by a staff that is enthusiastic, energetic, and fun to be around. Each camper's day will be filled with a variety of age-appropriate sports, games, arts and crafts, and educational activities that will keep your camper active and engaged.
Our weekly programs will include swimming (instructional/free swim), arts and crafts, fitness and recreation, reading, math, and science, field trips, and specialty days. Campers are well-supervised by highly trained camp counselors during all activities. Campers will receive a swimsuit, camp T-shirt, bag, and water bottle.
The camp will be located on the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus and a majority of activities will take place in the SMC Campus Center, which features three floors of recreation and fitness opportunities, a gymnasium with two basketball courts, volleyball, badminton, and two racquetball/squash conversion courts, and a five-lane, 25-yard "infinity" pool with a zero-depth entry ramp and a hydrotherapy bench with water and air-propulsion jets in the sixth lane.
Our summer camp will emphasize activity and education.
