State of Maryland Cost-of-Living Adjustment

December 22, 2020

Dear Faculty and Staff:

I am very pleased to let you know that the state of Maryland has mandated a 2 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that will go into effect Jan. 1, 2021, for most University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) employees.

The salary increase will appear in your Feb. 5 paycheck, and the amount of the salary increase will be retroactive to Jan. 1. To be eligible for the COLA, active employees must be on the UMB payroll as of Dec. 31, 2020, and Jan. 1, 2021.

The following categories of employees will receive the COLA:

  • Regular Faculty — tenured, tenure-track, non-tenure-track
  • Librarians
  • Regular Exempt and Nonexempt Staff
  • Contingent Category II Exempt and Nonexempt Staff where the contract indicates eligibility for a COLA
  • Postdoctoral Fellows not on National Research Service Award training grants

I wish you a wonderful holiday season. Thank you for your continued support of UMB’s students, programs, and initiatives. Please stay healthy and safe.

Sincerely,

Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS

President
