Retirement of Wallace Loh

Dear Colleagues:

Yesterday, Wallace D. Loh, PhD, JD, announced his retirement next June from the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). For eight years, Dr. Loh has led UMCP through tremendous growth and achievement, and I know there are many milestones reached during his tenure that he and his university community will look back on with deep — and well-deserved — pride.

I am particularly grateful for Dr. Loh’s invaluable collaboration in the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership, which joins the efforts of our two universities in advancing education, research, and innovation. Designed to strengthen Maryland and its economy, this partnership assuredly transcends the term of any president. Our two institutions will continue to grow our cooperative relationship, through the energetic leadership of our enormously talented faculty, staff, and students.

Dr. Loh and I became presidents of our respective universities at about the same time. As we’ve grown into our roles over the years, we’ve shared much with each other and learned much from each other. I will miss him as a close colleague.

Sincerely,

Jay A. Perman, MD
President
