Extending the Maryland Unites Campaign Through December

Dear Colleagues:

As you know, UMB has been participating in Gov. Hogan's Maryland Unites: Day of Service campaign, allowing employees to use four hours of paid leave to volunteer with a nonprofit organization of their choice.

With the holidays soon upon us and so many projects in need of volunteers, I'm extending the participation deadline. All regular state faculty and staff employees are now eligible to participate in the Maryland Unites campaign through the end of the calendar year, Dec. 31, 2015.

In support of this initiative, the Office of Community Engagement has captured on its website close-to-campus volunteer opportunities with existing community partners. Employees looking for activities to join will find them at the Office of Community Engagement Volunteer Opportunities website.

In addition to volunteer activities, you'll find on the site the UMB Maryland Unites Participation Agreement and Verification of Volunteer Service forms, which you must submit to Human Resource Services to document your volunteer hours.

While I encourage you to volunteer individually, you may want to maximize your impact by volunteering as a group or department. Of course, service activities or charitable giving could also be a meaningful part of your holiday celebrations.

I thank everyone who's already dedicated their time as part of this campaign. If you have any questions, please contact Brian Sturdivant, director of strategic initiatives and community partnerships, or call 410-706-1678.

Sincerely,

Jay A. Perman, MD
President
