Every day, the School of Social Work (SSW) strives to understand and improve lives and the communities people live and work in, and, in the midst of a pandemic, that work has never been more important. A few noteworthy initiates include:

• Recognized as one of the nation’s leading schools studying and fighting human trafficking, the School of Social Work is home to Maryland’s Human Trafficking Initiative for Children & Youth. This effort, led by SSW’s Institute for Innovation and Implementation and research associate professor Nadine Finigan-Carr, PhD, is just one of many underway at SSW that work to understand and address issues of youth and young adults.
• The American Academy of Pediatrics has invited SSW’s Institute for Innovation and Implementation to partner with it to increase access to telehealth and improve telehealth infrastructure in response to COVID-19.
• Assistant professor Laurie Graham, PhD, is examining global research on adolescent dating violence in an extensive effort to discover best practices in programs, program effects, and potential gaps in the evidence base.
