Last year, opioid overdoses killed more than five Marylanders every day. UMB's Center for Addiction Research, Education, and Service is a new multidisciplinary effort to prevent addiction and treat those affected by it. Our breakthroughs (like the School of Pharmacy's UMB 425, an opioid painkiller that could inhibit addiction) have won a lot of attention. CARES will supplement our pharmaceutical development with critical work in policy, treatment, and training.
