A Scientist's Quest to Cure All SARS-Coronaviruses

For more than 20 years, virologist Matthew Frieman, PhD, of the University of Maryland School of Medicine has dedicated his career to the study of coronaviruses. So for a good part of his professional life, an introduction at a cocktail party required that he first explain what epidemiology was, followed by a justification for exclusively studying novel coronaviruses. Of course, that was before the COVID-19 pandemic. His specific area of expertise has now arguably become one of the most important and relevant areas of global scientific inquiry. As his work continues, he is focusing on the search for a cure to all SARS-coronaviruses in the quest to avoid the next global pandemic before it begins.
