Wellness Fellows

Become a Wellness Fellow!

The Wellness Fellows will assist with health promotion and campaigns for the UMB community. Fellows must be self-starters and proactive workers looking to develop stress-management skills for their personal and professional lives.

Wellness Fellows are students representing the different schools of the University. They coordinate activities among student groups and various offices of UMB and most importantly plan and deliver programs focused on wellness and academic-life balance. Fellows learn how to effectively deliver interdisciplinary health promotion programs and evaluate the outcomes of their work.

Wellness Fellows' Duties

The Wellness Fellows will assist with daily operations, communications, and support for the Wellness Hub within Campus Life Services. The Fellows will report directly to the Health Educator of the Wellness Hub.  Fellows must be self-starters and pro-active workers to be compatible with this position.

Required Skills

Must be CPR and First Aid certified. Students are allowed three months into the position to complete these certifications through URecfit.

 Preferred Skills & Experience

Previous knowledge/experience with any of the following: Strong written and communication skills, program planning and evaluation, social media administration, excellent time management, ability to work independently and in team settings.

Scope of Duties

  • Lead daily operations, including website, calendar and other platform updates
  • Lead sustained marketing and promoting efforts
  • Provide tours of the Relaxation and Lactation spaces
  • Prepare reports and tracking of Lactation and Relaxation spaces
  • Assist with coordinating activities, workshops and events around health and wellbeing
  • Assist with the setup and tear down of special events, programs and services
  • Hold office hours to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Wellness Hub at least 5-10 hours a week
  • Work collaboratively with other areas in the division
  • Develop your own wellbeing
  • Communicate effectively with staff and must provide 48 hours’ notice of time off except for cases of emergency
  • Attend all Wellness Hub staff meetings

Wellness Instructors' Duties

The Wellness Instructor will assist with planning, coordinating, and overseeing of health promotion programs for the Wellness Hub within Campus Life Services. The Instructors will report directly to the Health Educator of the Wellness Hub.  Fellows must be self-starters and pro-active workers to be compatible with this position.

Required Skills

Must be CPR and First Aid certified. Students are allowed two months into the position to complete these certifications through URecfit. Must have one semester of experience as a Wellness Fellow or previous peer education background.

 Preferred Skills & Experience

Previous knowledge/experience with any of the following: Background in health, wellbeing, health promotions, peer education. Strong written and presenter skills, program planning and evaluation, social marketing, excellent time management, ability to work independently and in team settings.

Scope of Duties

  • Lead activities, workshops, and events around health and wellbeing
  • Provide peer education to student organizations and other UMB groups
  • Prepare correspondence and reports around event and participation tracking
  • Assist in research on campus health initiatives and relevant topics in the field
  • Assist in marketing and promoting efforts
  • Assist in identifying needs of current stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively with other areas in the division
  • Hold office hours to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Wellness Hub at least 5-10 hours a week
  • Communicate effectively with staff and must provide 48 hours’ notice of time off except for cases of emergency
  • Attend scheduled Wellness staff meetings
