Nivedita Hegdekar
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
Graduate School

Nivedita (Niv) is a sixth-year graduate student in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology program. Her research focuses on the molecular crosstalk between autophagy and neuroinflammation pathways following traumatic brain injury. Before matriculating into UMB, she received a bachelor’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, and a diploma in German Language and Literature from Mumbai University. Nivedita has served on USGA for three years as the senator for the Indian Association and International Students Organization, and this past year as USGA Secretary. During her free time, she enjoys reading, painting, and jogging along the Inner Harbor.

Nikki Hays
University of Maryland School of Medicine

Nikki is a third-year medical student in the Class of 2021. She graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a major in biology in 2017. When she isn't busy studying for medical school exams, Nikki enjoys exploring her new city of Baltimore. She is excited to be a part of positive change on the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus.


Amanda Fox

MSW Candidate 2020
University of Maryland School of Social Work

Amanda is in their final year of Social Work school pursuing their MSW, with a concentration in Community Action and Social Policy. They served as senator for the School of Social Work for the previous two years. Amanda is dedicated to addressing issues of diversity and inclusion in their work with USGA. Amanda's B.S. degree is in Psychology and Exercise Science. After graduating with their MSW, they hope to work to improve social policy or work clinically with individuals who struggle with substance use. If not in a coffee shop knitting, Amanda is most often found in the company of their cat.


Ramon Martinez
Pronouns: He/Him/His
Graduate School 

Ramon is a fifth-year graduate student in the Pharmaceutical Sciences program.

Before joining his graduate program, he received his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His research focuses on studying novel therapeutic agents that can be used to selectively regulate signaling pathways in the treatment of cancer. Ramon has served as primary senator for the graduate school on the USGA for one year as well as Vice President for the Graduate Student Association. During his free time, Ramon enjoys visiting breweries, looking for lots of fun local restaurants, and hiking. Given his California roots, Ramon is looking forward to working with the USGA to make all out-of-state students feel at home and welcome while at UMB.

Aysha Mahmud

Ayshah Mahmud is a fourth-year dental student in the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry program. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in 2015 and will be earning a Biotechnology Masters in 2020. Ayshah has served as an alternate primary senator for the dental school, primary senator for the MSSA, and the Co-President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness at UMB. During the times she isn't seeing patients or studying, she enjoys photography, traveling, reading, and hiking. Ayshah is dedicated to promoting collaboration, leadership, and wellness in their work with the USGA. She is looking forward to working with the USGA to serve the UMB students to build a strong campus community among all professional schools.  


Steph Malchine
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
School of Law   

‌Steph is currently a third year law student who is originally from Waterford, Wisconsin. She earned a bachelor’s degree in History, Legal Studies, and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was a member of the varsity women’s rowing team. Before law school, she worked for the state of Wisconsin for two years. Her future career goals involve working in environmental or agricultural law. She is excited to serve the UMB community and work with fellow USGA leaders for the 2019-2020 school year! 


Marisa Booth
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
School of Law

Marisa is a second year law student, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is from Southern Maryland and has lived in the state her whole life. Marisa has previously served as a primary and regular USGA Senator for the law school, and is also member of the UMB's Student Fees Advisory Board. During her year off between undergrad and law school, Marisa worked teaching lifeguard and CPR/First Aid certification classes, teaching swim lessons, coaching a swim team, and managing an outdoor pool. In her free time, she likes to take walks and explore Baltimore. Marisa hopes to work in the business law field in the future, staying in either D.C. or Maryland.

Cyndi loves advising student organizations and helping students develop into well-rounded, holistic, and professional student leaders.
