Annual UMB Wellness Fair

Hosted by URecFit and Wellness, the Annual UMB Wellness Fair is an event to help strengthen the culture of well-being at UMB. This year, the wellness fair will take place Monday, April 1, 2024, 10 a.m-2 p.m. in the SMC Campus Center Elm Ballrooms and first floor locations. 

The fair is comprised of more than 50 vendors, student leaders, campus partners, and community organizations who come together to share a wealth of resources designed to help attendees prioritize their physical, mental, and emotional wellness. 

Get your passport for a trip around the wellness fair! Passports will be given out at the check-in table. Visit and have your passport stamped by 5 different interactive tables/presentations and be entered into raffles to win wellness prizes! A passport drop box will be available at the check-in table. 

Resources include interactive activities such as seated massages to reduce stress, running gait analysis, and screenings for blood pressure, posture, and extensibility by students in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (PTRS).

This year, we will be including interactive and educational presentations on topics such as Using Plants for Well-Being, Investment Basics, the Learning Institute and Academic and Professional Coaching, Mental Health at UMB, Interactive Stretching, and Sustainable Cooking. Register below.

Interactive Stretching 101  

Presented by Linda Penkala, LMT and Wellness Educator, this workshop will teach you stretches to lessen stress, enhance flexibility, and improve posture. Come prepared to do seated stretches. Learning Institute and Academic and Professional Coaching 

Join Dr. Gregory Brightbill, Associate Director, Student Leadership & Involvement of Intercultural Leadership & Engagement to learn about The Learning Institute and Academic and Professional Coaching. The Learning Institute provides students, staff, and faculty at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, access to a selection of free-to-participate micro-courses. Each micro-course within The Learning Institute was designed to showcase unique professional achievements, soft-skills development, extra-curricular course completion, and non-academic certifications. Academic and Professional Development Coaching is a service designed to provide individual and personalized support during your time at UMB.  All students at UMB are welcome to participate in Academic and Professional Development Coaching Services, not just students with disabilities.

Mental Health at UMB 

This is a data presentation from the UMB 2023 Healthy Minds Study. Dr. Jenna Silverman, Executive Director the Student Counseling Center will present data from the 2022-2023 Healthy Minds Study, administered February of 2023. The Healthy Minds Network’s annual web-based survey study examines mental health, service utilization, and related issues among undergraduate and graduate students. Since its national launch in 2007, HMS has been fielded at over 450 colleges and universities, with over a half million survey respondents. 

The UMB Healthy Minds Survey collected information on the following areas: demographics, mental health status, mental health utilization/help-seeking, mental health climate on our campus, and academic competition, persistence, and retention. Join the Office of Sustainability for a live cooking demo (and sampling) of a delicious plant-based recipe. Learn how easy, affordable, and delicious plant-based cooking can be. Limit of 5 people per session.
