NCCWSL Scholarships 2019
The National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL) was held again at the University of Maryland, College Park from May 29th to June 1, 2019.
I, Chanelle Hutchinson, have a Masters in Nursing (MSN) student in the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) concentration going into my last semester of the program (December graduation coming soon). Last year, I was elected as President for UMSON’s Students United for Policy, Education, and Research (SUPER). As President, I have resided over club activities and facilitated co-sponsored events on campus. The most recent event, called the Prevention and Reversal of Opioid Overdose, was held during National Public Health Week and brought many disciplines together to discuss an important topic. Additionally, I like to volunteer within the community with the Community Engagement Center (CEC).
I am currently a Macro/Micro Advanced Standing Social Work Student in the Community Action and Social Policy Program. I finished my fall semester with a 4.1 GPA. For the 2018-2019 school year, I am serving as the Student Committee Chair for the Student Grievance Committee representing School of Social Work. In addition, I am also a member of the School of Social Work's Intersectional Feminism and Social Work Committee and engage in activities raising Women's issues and highlighting topics related to gender-based violence and legislative priorities. For my field placement, I currently intern at the American Civil Liberties Union of Maryland (ACLU of MD) in the education project. Much of the work we are involved in involves ensuring every student in Maryland receives in equitable education and is free of discrimination and oppression. I also work part-time as the Assistant Coordinator for the Maryland Women of Color Network and Underserved Populations for the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault. I am also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society, Phi Alpha Honors Society, and Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society.
Just prior to attending the NCCWSL Conference, Ms. Lewis was hired to work for the Kamala Harris Presidential campaign.
