Malinda Hughes, MA, is the Chief of Staff for Academic Affairs and the Graduate School.
In this role, she provides direction on the approval of new academic programs and manages the interaction between the Office of Academic Affairs and UMB's Schools in matters of faculty appointment, promotion, and tenure. Additionally, she administers the activities of the President’s University Leadership Program, a development program for Associate and Assistant Vice Presidents.
She joined UMB’s staff in 2011 as an Academic Program Manager in the Office of Academic Affairs, and served in this role until transitioning to her current position in 2017.
Hughes serves on the UMB Staff Senate and the UMBrella Advisory Board. She was named the UMB Employee of the Month in May 2016 and the UMB Cecil S. Kelly Memorial Employee of the Year in 2017.
Hughes holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Columbia University and a Master’s degree in Publications Design from the University of Baltimore. She is a travel enthusiast, National Parks lover and an unabashed theater fan.
