Theo C. Rodgers, MBA receiving the 2019 Distinguished Service Award

Theo Rodgers is a valued member of the UMB Foundation, Inc., and has been a source of advice and counsel for more than 16 years. He has been a leader and advocate for the greater Baltimore community and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), continuing to provide generous support for a number of UMB-related endeavors.

Rodgers has long been a leader in the community and an advocate for youth. A longtime member of the Baltimore Community Foundation, he has been an active supporter of the Healthy Neighborhoods Initiative. Most recently, Rodgers became an inaugural benefactor in establishing the UMB Police Athletic/Activities League (UMBPAL). UMBPAL, a collaboration between the University’s Community Engagement Center and the UMB Police Department, is one of two PAL programs based at a university in the United States. Nearly 30 elementary and middle school students and eight UMB police officer mentors participate in regular after-school sessions and field trips, working toward the primary goal of UMBPAL — nurturing relationships between police officers and neighborhood children.

In addition to supporting the communities where students live, Rodgers has been an advocate for their education. His investments in the Baltimore Education Scholarship Trust, KIPP Baltimore, and the University of Maryland School of Dentistry have provided many economically disadvantaged students the opportunity to succeed throughout their educational journey.

The UMB Foundation recognizes Rodgers and his dedication to the people of Baltimore, our city, and our University with the 2019 Distinguished Service Award.
