Changes to UM Shuttle Fees

Jan. 27, 2020

Dear Colleagues,

The UM shuttle, which provides the University community with a number of bus routes, has been funded primarily by the student transportation fee. To be fair to students, UMB will be moving to an updated financial model whereby faculty, staff, affiliates, and postdocs using the UM shuttle will be charged a fee.

The recommendation to charge faculty, staff, affiliates, and postdocs was thoroughly discussed and supported in two town halls held in April 2019. At that time a flat fee was being discussed, but due to changes in the MTA program we will implement a per-ride fee.

On or about April 6, 2020, faculty, staff, affiliates, and postdocs will be charged a fee of $1.75 per ride (one way) to use the UM shuttle. Riders will need to pre-load their UMB One Cards with funds either online or at a campus kiosk before boarding the shuttle. Drivers will not be equipped to accept cash at any time.

Updates will be posted on the UM shuttle website in the coming weeks. Thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

Dawn M. Rhodes, MBA
Chief Business and Finance Officer and Vice President
