Lyft On-Demand Shuttle

The University of Maryland, Baltimore has partnered with Lyft to offer all current UMB students, faculty, and staff a new reliable mobility resource that replaces the previous campus shuttle system. Lyft On-Demand Shuttle will offer up to $10 off per ride for a maximum of 24 rides per month, on Standard Lyft rides only, to/from the previous shuttle stops.

Note: There is a limited amount of funding available for this program and should the number of participants or usage exceed the estimated numbers, the program will end. You will be notified about any changes in the program should they arise.

“Shuttle Stops” for Discounted Lyft Rides

Lyft rides must start and end at any of the designated shuttle stops on the map below in order for the discount to apply.

Additional Program Information

  • If you request a ride that doesn’t meet the criteria, you will not see the discount shown on your ride confirmation screen and you will pay out of pocket. Lyft will not provide refunds for rides that take place outside of the geofence parameters.
  • Prices may be impacted by distance, traffic, time of day, special events and prime time surcharges.
  • If you see an expiration date of the last day of the current month listed in your Lyft app, don’t worry – the program discount is automatically re-applied on the first day of each month, so the last day of the current month will always show as an expiration date but won’t affect your ability to receive discounted rides.
  • After your ride ends, make sure your payment method reflects the discount to ensure your program credits applied. If your credits did not apply and you believe this was in error, contact Lyft support through the Lyft app.

How to Sign Up

On Tuesday, November 24, all currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff will receive an invitation at their official UMB email account from Lyft Business inviting them to activate the Lyft On-Demand Shuttle program. Open this email and follow the prompt to opt-in to the program to receive your discounted rides.

Your discount will then automatically be applied to your account within the Lyft app (in the “Promos” section) to rides which meet the program eligibility criteria.

  1. Can I opt-in to both programs? Yes, you can. We encourage you to utilize both programs. Follow the prompt in both email invitations from Lyft to opt-in to each program.
  2. How do my Lyft ride credits work for the Lyft Shuttle On-Demand program?  The program credits grant up to $10 off per ride for a maximum of 24 rides per month.
  3. During what times can the credits be used? The Lyft On-Demand Shuttle program can be used Monday - Friday, 6 a.m. - 11 p.m.
  4. When will my new credits be applied monthly? Program credits will be available in your Lyft app on the first day of the month. Credits do not rollover, so you’ll only receive 24 subsidized rides per month.
  5. What Covid-19 measures is Lyft taking to ensure our safety? Lyft has several measures in place to protect all members of the community. See Lyft’s health safety measures at this link: Lyft Health Safety Program.
  6. Can I use the Lyft ride credits on every ride? No. Credits will only be applied to rides at UMB Shuttle stops, during the eligible time frames. Rides must start and end at designated shuttle stops only.
  7. Does the 40% off credit apply to the Lyft Ride Smart Program at UMB? No. The Lyft Ride Smart Program at UMB is an entirely separate program, and provides 3 discounted rides per month (up to $5 off) within that program’s designated service area and time frames.
  8. Do I need to download the Lyft app? Yes, you must download the Lyft mobile app and create a Lyft account in order to participate in the program. If you already have the Lyft app, the program credits will automatically apply to your existing account after you opt-in to the program via the email invitation you received.

  10. Will I be notified when to opt-in to the program? Yes. You will receive an email invitation with opt-in instructions (expect to receive one email for each program; you must opt-in to each individual program.)
