"The UMB Pulse" podcast features conversations with inspiring people about impactful programs at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB).

Each season, “The Pulse” shares specific stories or covers topics of interest related to a common theme.

The 2022 spring and fall seasons are being dedicated to sharing stories about who and how UMB and its local partners are taking creative action to overcome barriers and solve social problems in our own community, across the state of Maryland, and globally. Furthering the mission of UMB President Bruce E. Jarrell's commitment to Maryland, these stories oftentimes shed light on programs in our own "backyard."

The summer 2022 season will highlight some interesting museums, buildings and opportunities right on campus where visitors can immerse themselves in the unique history that is UMB.

Why This Podcast … and Why These Topics?

At its onset, “The UMB Pulse” aims to be a mechanism for people to obtain informative, timely, and transparent Return to Campus communications as faculty, staff, and students navigate from teleworking and telelearning to an in-person or hybrid model — a way to get back in touch with the heartbeat of UMB after more than a year of disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. UMB will release a new podcast every two weeks.

The intent in fall 2021 is for “The UMB Pulse” to evolve into a topic-driven podcast geared toward sharing interesting and engaging stories about:

  • Our internal faculty, staff, and student triumphs
  • Interesting things you never knew about UMB
  • Our engaging neighborhood partnerships with the West Baltimore community
  • UMB’s diverse and accomplished alumni
