Fire Watch

Respond to an impaired sprinkler or fire alarm system.


General instruction if a fire watch shall be implemented. A fire watch will be implemented if a sprinkler or fire alarm system at a University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) campus building is impaired for more than eight hours.


  1. Notify appropriate campus personnel.
    1. UMB Fire Marshal at 6-3494.
    2. UMB Police at 6-6882.
    3. Work Control at 6-7570.
  2. Persons on fire watch duty should not have any other responsibility during the time the fire watch is in effect.
  3. Continously patrol the entire area affected by the service outage.
  4. Keep a log of fire watch patrols.
  5. If a fire is discovered:
    1. Follow the evacuations procedures for your building.
    2. If the building fire alarm system is out of service, follow all applicable portions of the UMB Fire Alarm System Impairment Procedures.
