What is Zimride?

The University has partnered with Zimride to make sharing rides for drivers and passengers fun and easy. In seconds, you can set up a profile, search for open seats, or post a ride of your own. With Zimride, you can view photos, music, and radio preferences to ensure a sweet ride. Get started today!

Does Zimride register me for my carpool?

No. Zimride is used only to locate potential carpool partners. It is your responsibility to come to the Office of Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) with all permits and a completed application to register.

Note*  All participants in the carpool group must return their permit and access card, at which time the primary participant will receive a carpool permit and access card(s) for the group.

Why would I consider carpooling?

There are many benefits to carpooling. Here are a few:

  1. Environmentally friendly alternative: carpooling reduces the number of cars on the road and helps to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality
  2. Economical benefits: carpool partners split the price of the parking space and the price of gasoline
  3. Health benefits: the reduction of stress driving to work or school on a regular basis alone
  4. Limited reserved parking: spaces in selected garages for three or more participants in a carpool group
  5. Social benefits: sharing the driving, good conversation and doing your part to improve the campus and the environment

Who is responsible for the financial agreement between carpool groups?

PTS will not be involved in the financial agreement between any carpool group. The financial responsible must be worked out between the carpool members.

When is it too late to forma carpool?

Never!  It's never too late to start saving money.

If I cannot ride with my carpool on a given day, what can I do?

During registration, you will receive courtesy vouchers. These vouchers are to be used when a carpool member must drive and park alone. In this instance, you must park at a designated garage (Saratoga, Penn, Baltimore Grand or Pearl garages) in an unreserved parking space.

Where do I get more courtesy parking vouchers?

You must send an email to when your group runs out of courtesy vouchers. Additional vouchers will be handled on a case by case basis.

We found another possible carpool member. How do we add them to our carpool?

New members can be added to an existing carpool at any time. Keep in mind they must already have a University monthly parking permit.

Why can't a carpool involve a car owner and non-car owner?

The purpose of the carpool program is to reduce the number of cars on the road thereby reducing traffic congestion and air pollution.

What do we do if a member wants to leave a carpool?

An individual may opt out of a carpool program at any time. Individuals opting out must return their unused courtesy vouchers to PTS. Keep in mind the participant leaving the program will have to return to the department liaison to obtain parking again and may be placed on a waiting list.

Note* An individual opting out can change the carpool level if not replaced within a two week period. Ex: A Level 2 carpool (three or more participants) will become a Level 1 (two participants) resulting in relinquishment of reserved carpool space if applicable.

Who are considered affiliate members of the University?
