Social Identity Initiatives

Tajfel (1981) described social identity as that part of our self-concept that comes from our membership in social groups, the value we place on this membership, and what it means to us emotionally. In the U.S. context there are Agent social identities with inherent privilege and Targeted social identities with inherent oppression.

For many of us, our identity is a combination of both agent and targeted social identities. The Intercultural Center offers a variety of initiatives that help individuals at all stages of their identity development understand the role that society identity has on their world view and their interactions with others.
