Elena Buff

Elena is a first-year student in the School of Pharmacy from Prince Frederick, Md. She received a BS in chemistry with a minor in Spanish from the University of South Carolina in 2016. Elena graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and with Leadership Distinction in Global Learning. She also is a recipient of the university's Peer Leader Recognition and the President's Volunteer Service Award at the Bronze Level for completion of 100-174 service hours between April 2015-2016. Elena's commitment to serving the community is proved by her work with the Good Samaritan Clinic in West Columbia, S.C., where she interpreted for Spanish-speaking patients and volunteered with patient chart input. She also served on a medical mission trip to Peru in January 2016. Elena plans to continue her service work in Baltimore while pursuing her PharmD. She ultimately hopes to pursue a residency in pediatric pharmacy.

Nicole Campion Dialo

Nicole is a second-year student in the dual-degree MD/MPH program at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Originally from Massachusetts, she completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, where she majored in psychology and played xylophone in the marching band. After her graduation in 2013, she moved to West Baltimore, where she served as an AmeriCorps volunteer at Bon Secours Hospital with the Bon Secours Volunteer Ministry. Inspired by her year of service, Nicole decided to stay in Baltimore to attend the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Last year, she worked with the University’s Community Engagement Center to develop and implement a community health education course called “Healthy Living 101.” This year, she will be serving as co-president of UMSOM’s chapter of the American Medical Student Association, treasurer of the Global Health Interest Group, and music director of the school’s a cappella group, the Hippocratic Notes. She lives with her husband in the Hollins Market neighborhood, where, in her spare time, she enjoys playing the piano, practicing yoga, and cooking.
