About the Program

Emergency wardens are volunteers that assist with emergency evacuations.  Rather than immediately evacuating when the fire alarm activates, emergency wardens instead search a designated area to ensure all other occupants have safely evacuated.  Once their search area is clear, emergency wardens then evacuate the building and report to a designated area to check in with emergency personnel.

Outside of assisting with emergency evacuations, the only time commitment required is to attend an initial one-hour training class and then a short refresher class every few years.

All floors should have at least two emergency wardens.  There is no maximum number of wardens.

Emergency wardens do not search floors when there are fire conditions or any other conditions where you feel that you are in harm’s way.
