Glenn Canares

Glenn CanaresGlenn Canares, DDS, MSD, is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, serving as the clinical director and the assistant director for the Advanced Specialty Education Program.

Dr. Canares is an American-born child of Filipino immigrants and was raised in a blue-collar community. He leads with authenticity in the hopes that it brings out the best in himself and others. He currently serves on the Diversity Advisory Council and has been integrating the tenets of diversity, equity, and inclusion in his life, personally and professionally.

Dr. Glenn Canares received his dental degree (DDS) from New York University and his master’s degree (MSD)/certificate in pediatric dentistry from the University of Washington-Seattle Children's Hospital. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and President-Elect of the Maryland Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He helps administer an innovative program to serve low-income and uninsured families, in which dental students and residents use minimally invasive treatment to control dental caries in this vulnerable pediatric population. He has experience working in community health centers and private practice prior to joining the faculty full-time at the University of Maryland. Dr. Canares has research interests in dental education and dental care for children with special health care needs.
