Can you please clarify the suggestion that Marylanders who travel out of state for personal reasons should get a COVID test upon return?

July 14, 2020 (updated November 19, 2020)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that travel, and hosting guests who travel to you, increases the chance of getting and spreading the virus that causes COVID-19.

Hosting or attending celebrations with individuals who are not already part of your immediate household is risky for yourself, your colleagues, and patients or clients you interact with. UMB does not support your involvement in these activities.

If it is mandatory for you to travel outside of Maryland, you are strongly advised to immediately get a COVID-19 test upon your return to Maryland or within 72 hours before travel to Maryland and to self-quarantine until the test result is received.

NOTE: The testing and quarantine recommendations above do not apply to the travel that is part of a student or employee's daily commute.
