As the Delta variant continues to dominate the news, please know that the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is closely monitoring the situation. UMB is continuously reviewing several internal and external metrics including public health restrictions.
It's understandable that many of us are feeling worried or nervous, for our own health or that of family members. UMB’s updated face covering policy states that all people on campus, including visitors, must wear a face covering/mask in public indoor settings and on UMB buses or shuttles. Baltimore City has enacted an indoor face mask requirement as well. In addition, our highly vaccinated on-campus population – less than 3 percent of employees and students have indicated that they won’t be vaccinated at this time – will help prevent the spread of COVID-19 at UMB.
Classes have started in some schools and more people will be on campus soon. As of today, the data doesn’t indicate a need to change UMB’s plan for a robust in-person presence this fall. The University community will be updated as the public situation evolves.
Please continue to have conversations with colleagues, friends, and family who have yet to be vaccinated about why it is so important to do so for them and for our community.
