Core Values Speaker Series
Lea Berman, MA, will speak at UMB on April 8, 2019, on the core value of civility.
Berman served as White House social secretary from 2004 to 2007 under the George W. Bush administration. She co-wrote the book Treating People Well: The Extraordinary Power of Civility at Work and in Life, with Jeremy Bernard, White House social secretary under the Barack Obama administration.
Berman has worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies at Georgetown University and also for the National Republican Senatorial Committee. A married mother of two grown daughters, Berman also ran her own fundraising and event planning business and for five years published a blog titled America's Table, which discussed food, flowers, and formalities.
After her presentation, she will be signing copies of her book, which will be available for sale at $16.
About the Core Values Speaker Series
UMB launched our inaugural speaker series on March 30, 2015. The series promotes UMB’s core values of accountability, civility, collaboration, diversity, excellence, knowledge, and leadership.
National and international leaders come to UMB to lecture on their expertise and experiences; lectures are intended to appeal to broad University/communitywide audiences.
The Core Values Speaker Series brings the world’s best and brightest to UMB to enhance the manner in which the entire University community approaches its work, contributes to society, and leads as an institution. The speaker series also provides an opportunity for the University to come together as one at stimulating cultural events that enhance the environment in which the University works and learns.
