300 West Lexington Revamp: Phase 1 – Transition to AI Net Contract 

CITS Accountable Lead – Brian Coats

Description: This project transitions to the vendor AI.net the responsibility for the 300 W Lex data center (room/space) and will reconfigure how the network enters this space, including re-cabling and network changes. Most of these changes have been made.

Azure Networking 

CITS Accountable Lead – LaVern Phillips

Description: This project will set up the necessary Azure foundation components such as networking configuration; implementing the Palo Alto firewall, including moving exiting Azure firewall rules, converting network security groups (NSGs), move School of Medicine (SOM) to the CITS Azure Express Route (excluding University of Maryland Medical System [UMMS] network range). The SOM Express Route move was completed March 17, 2023.

Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) 

CITS Accountable Lead – Ryan Whyms

Description: This project will establish Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) framework & presence for a variety of use cases and investigate posture checking capabilities to evaluate remotely connecting devices. We are currently conducting a pilot with CITS users and will soon include users from Central Administration.

Banner Self Service (SSB) 9 Implementation 

CITS Accountable Lead – Diane Faranetta

Description: This project upgraded the Banner Self Service modules (SSB) to version 9. We followed our cutover plan into Production in mid-October 2022. This project is now complete.

Change Analog Phone Lines to VoIP 

CITS Accountable Lead – LaVern Phillips

Description: This project will assess all telephone lines and move all analog lines to Voice over Internet Protocols (VoIP) that can be moved.  Further progress is being made to convert lines that can be converted, including the blue light emergency phones.

ColdFusion Moving to the Cloud 

CITS Accountable Lead: Trisha Kaufman

Description: This project will move all applications running on the ColdFusion platform to the Azure cloud environment. Twenty percent of ColdFusion applications have been migrated. Due to other scheduled work, further effort for this project will resume by June 2023.

Concur Travel and Expense System Implementation 

CITS Accountable Lead – Diane Faranetta

Description: This project implements the new travel and expense system, Concur. The pilot user group went live November 28, 2022. After further pilot testing with more users, the new system rolled out to all users April 10, 2023. Project closing activities will follow.

Databases Moving to the Cloud 

CITS Accountable Lead – Brent Nickles

Description: This project moves UMB databases into cloud environments. Moves for systems such as Advance, Banner, and others will be to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

Data Cookbook Installation and Setup 

CITS Accountable Lead – Michael Brown

Description: This project will install and perform the initial setup of the Data Cookbook Cloud application to capture data & reporting documentation, as well as enable the data quality assurance capabilities. All data fields have been pulled into the data cookbook. Report specifications have been set up. Student Account Receivables (SAR) Reports can now be documented. We are provisioning the user group with access.

Decommissioning of F5 Load Balancer 

CITS Accountable Lead – LaVern Phillips

Description: This project will determine how we can decommission the F5 server traffic load balancer and achieve load balancing with existing tools. The following have all been dealt with: MediaSite, Maximus, eUMB Financials, Raven. Shibboleth has moved to Azure and no longer uses F5. LDAP has been retired. Redirects for the following sites/domains have been moved to Terminal 4: umaryland.edu, pharmacy.umaryland.edu, schoolmentalhealth.org, and ssw.umaryland.edu.

DegreeWorks Upgrade 

CITS Accountable Lead – Diane Faranetta

Description: Degree Works is the planning tools that helps students and advisors monitor progress toward a degree completion. The upgrade to this system was completed March 3, 2023. This project is now complete.

Human Capital Management (HCM) Pre-Implementation Phase 

CITS Accountable Lead – Diane Faranetta

Description: Working with our planning partner Huron, we have prepared for implement of the new system Readout for this work has been shared and the decision has been made to move forward. Procurement activities are move ahead for software and consulting with actual implementation expected to begin in July 2023.

Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) – Multifactor Authentication Compliance 

CITS Accountable Lead – Fred Smith

Description: This effort is to identify all applications that still utilize LDAP for authentication and either move them to use Single Sign-On or VPN for authentication or document an exception for continuing with LDAP. Student Systems and eUMB, HR/Finance systems were assessed. The UNIX and Windows systems have been mitigated. Additional systems were analyzed and mitigated by the Directory/Identity Management group. This project is now complete.

New Portal for Veterinarian Resources (Cayuse) 

CITS Accountable Lead – Diane Faranetta

Description: We will help deploy a cloud-based portal for veterinarian resources for the School of Medicine. Development is complete. Development and testing of integrations is complete. The production instance has been provisioned and is being loaded

School of Nursing Banner Reports Pilot 

CITS Accountable Lead – Michael Brown

Description: We have been assisting the School of Nursing (SON) with developing new reports in Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) for Banner by teaching their report writers how to create their own reports in OAC. University Communications is helping us build a blank T4 website to create a new environment for additional pages. SON progresses with converting their reports to the Analytics group’s report/dashboard layout for a better user experience.

Student Reporting for Multiple Schools 

CITS Accountable Lead – Michael Brown

Description: We are assisting the Bursar’s office and the Registrar’s office with migrating legacy reports to and developing new reports in Oracle Analytics Cloud for student data. All schools have provided report conversion requirements. We are currently on track to have all reports migrated by May 31, 2023 and expect feedback from the schools to start by mid-April.

Student Secure Research/TriNetX/AVD (Hospital data project) 

CITS Accountable Lead – Dr. Murray

Description: The Azure infrastructure and needed networking have been put together to create a Secure Research Environment (SRE). Several pilot users are currently using the environment. The TriNetX research project feasibility appliance successfully conducted a pilot and is now in production use.

Terminal 4 (T4) Upgrade 

CITS Accountable Lead – Trisha Kaufman

Description: This project upgrades the web content management tool (used to update websites) to a Linux operating system environment. All preliminary work and the actual upgrade have taken place. Everything is now in production. This project is now complete. 

Wireless connectivity for Community Engagement Center Tax Prep Services 

CITS Accountable Lead – LaVern Phillips

Description: We assisted the Community Engagement Center with ensuring their tax prep services for the neighborhood community used the proper security encryption. This project is now complete.
