CITS, SEFEL, and The Institute
May 20, 2015 | By Chris Phillips
The Institute for Innovation and Implementation (The Institute) is affiliated with the UMB School of Social Work, but receives major funding from the Maryland State Department of Education, the Maryland Governor's Office for Children, the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and other state and federal sources. The Institute is involved in research, evaluation and support of a wide range of projects related to child-serving systems and children's behavioral health services.
Acting on research which has shown that when children have appropriate pro- social behavior they do better in school and in life, The Institute has assembled an online nexus of resources known as the Social Emotional Foundations for Early Learning, SEFEL to help caregivers teach these skills.
The SEFEL website, hosted by UMB, has been in existence for a number of years, but had become out of date and in need of a new look. Sarah Nadiv, Research Supervisor at The Institute, in partnership with Colleen Hoffmeister, a web developer who does work for The Institute as a member of the CITS Web Group, recently completed a rewrite and redesign of the site, in the process also making it responsive to reading on hand-held devices.
CITS is proud to be a part of the high quality, innovative work that The Institute does with states, localities, public and private organizations.
