Dr. Murray began his tenure at UMB on Jan. 14, 2002. He oversees the Center for Information Technology Services (CITS). CITS is the central information technology organization for the University that develops and maintains mission-critical enterprise systems and technologies, e.g., human resources, payroll, finance, student, email, research, teaching and learning, network infrastructure, web, and telecommunications. Dr. Murray also is responsible for overseeing and coordinating campuswide information technology, including policies, committees, and the overall strategy for the University.

Dr. Murray has raised the standard for information technology services, collaboration, efficiency, and security. During his tenure as a CIO he has been an active participant on Educause, Internet2, and industry advisory groups, councils, and committees, including chairing the Higher Education Information Security Council for EDUCAUSE.  He has introduced many state-of-the-art security best practices to safeguard UMB systems and data and has made numerous presentations regarding many different aspects of information technology. 

Dr. Murray has a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College and a Master of Science degree from SUNY Plattsburgh. He also earned a Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) and a PhD degree, both from the University at Albany, SUNY.
