Issue 4 (Autumn 2022)

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Council for the Arts & Culture is pleased to share the fourth issue of 1807.

“The fourth issue of 1807, UMB’s art and literary journal, features a set of striking images and profound words. The art that graces this issue’s pages does not disappoint. It continues to be broad in type and variety, color and texture, mood and feel. And yes, it even features imagery of some of our UMB buildings, as well as a tremendous amount of other stunning art and literary works.”

— Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, President of UMB

The cover art for this issue features a 12-inch-by-12-inch oil portrait, entered in the visual arts category. It depicts a woman in a Colonial-style pink dress, seated at a writing table, lost in her thoughts. “A World Away” creates a quiet mood of tranquility and was painted by Joan Lee, affiliate physician and sub-investigator, Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health, University of Maryland School of Medicine.
