Roger Ward, EdD, JD, MPA, MSL was named provost and executive vice president of UMB in October 2021 after serving in interim roles since January 2020, when he also was named dean of the Graduate School. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president for operations and institutional effectiveness and has held a range of other leadership roles since joining UMB in 2009.

Leilani Uttenreither supports the provost and executive vice president with day-to-day activities including managing calendars, travel, and correspondence. She is the lead coordinator of the Faculty Leadership Development Program and contributes to other special projects as needed. Additionally, Leilani works closely with the Office of the President and serves as a liaison between the two units.

Jenny Owens, ScD, MS was named the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) vice provost of academic affairs and strategic initiatives in April 2024. She previously served as associate dean of academic affairs and associate professor in the University of Maryland Graduate School as well as executive director of the Graduate Research Innovation District (Grid). Dr. Owens leads academic administration, enterprise risk management, and other strategic priorities within the university.

Meghan manages the interaction between the Office of the Provost and UMB Schools with regard to faculty actions, policies, and procedures. Among other responsibilities, she serves as the subject matter expert on new academic program development, review and approval and serves as the liaison to MHEC and USM on matters related to academic programs. 

Tricia O’Neill, JD 
Senior Advisor for the Provost and Executive Vice President

Tricia serves as a part-time senior advisor to the provost providing institutional history and guidance when she works on special projects.

Leandra Cate, PhD 
Postdoctoral Scholar

Leandra works collaboratively with Provost Ward and others on campus to produce original scholarship and research in the field of higher education, with emphases on administration, equity, teaching effectiveness, leadership, and policy analysis.
