Announcing Search for Next Dean of the Graduate School

December 01, 2022

Dear UMB Community,

When I announced in October 2021 that Roger J. Ward, EdD, JD, MSL, MPA, would be the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) next provost, the plan was to separate the provost and dean of the Graduate School into separate positions. I am therefore pleased to announce that UMB has commenced a national search for the next dean of the Graduate School and vice provost for Graduate Education. The new dean will succeed Dr. Ward, who will continue to serve as provost and executive vice president.

Jane M. Kirschling, PhD, RN, FAAN, the Bill and Joanne Conway Dean of the University of Maryland School of Nursing, will serve as the search committee chair, and Michelle Pearce, PhD, professor in the Graduate School, will be the co-chair. The firm Isaacson, Miller, which specializes in recruiting leaders for mission-driven organizations, will assist the committee in the search.

More information about the search, including the position description, a timeline of events, and more, is available here. We look forward to having a diverse candidate pool of accomplished academic leaders excited to join the UMB family.

Sincerely,

Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS

President
