Jennifer Owusu-Sekyere

Jennifer Owusu-Sekyere BioPolice communications operator (PCO) Jennifer Owusu-Sekyere joined University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Police and Public Safety just last month. She says the department greeted her on her first day, not as a new hire, but as family.

“I became a PCO to contribute to the safety of the community and to learn more about law enforcement,” says Owusu-Sekyere. She says her favorite part of the new role is serving the community, but there’s a lot to learn. “As I always say, excellence is the standard and failure is not an option, so I continue to study the material to be the subject matter expert in my current role.”

As a new employee, Owusu-Sekyere encourages others new to UMB to try new things and strive to be improve. “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take,” she says. “There is no failure. Only lessons learned.”

Outside of work, Owusu-Sekyere enjoys spending time with her family and watching “House Hunters” as she looks forward to buying her first home. She also enjoys listening to music, and the first concert she attended was T-Pain!
