Nautica Dove

Security officer Nautica Dove was chosen as April’s Spotlight Officer for her quick thinking when a space heater caught fire in the Maryland Bar Center in March.

“I was able to utilize what I have learned during the fire drills to help me in what could have been really bad if I did not take the measures I took to ensure everyone’s safety that was in the building,” says Dove. UMB Fire Marshal Andrew Roberts applauded her action, which prevented serious damage to the building.

Dove has been a security officer with the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD) for six years. She enjoys helping the community to feel safe and comfortable at UMB.

“I want our community to not only feel safe here, but the police and security officers will help keep you safe,” she says.

As a security officer, Dove enjoys meeting people from different professions and backgrounds. She says she always remains true to herself: understanding, transparent, pleasant, and, most of all, respectful. Her commitment to these values makes her an ideal Spotlight for April, which also is UMB Core Values Month.

In the future, Dove says she hopes to become a physiologist. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her two kids and traveling.
